HIV/AIDs Awareness Training

Target group:
Synopsis:
To offer an introduction to HIV/AIDS, including
symptoms and causes. To provide an overview of the specialist services
offered in the local authority and when to refer. To identify the
problems and issues, which may arise from the perspective of the service
user and the service provider.
Aims and objectives:
- To increase staff awareness of our
attitudes to HIV/AIDS.
- To increase staff awareness of the range
of symptoms associated with HIV/AIDS.
- To reflect on the importance of a a clear
code of practice which staff need to maintain when providing
personal care.
- To explore the main issues surrounding
confidentiality.
- To review the types of services and
treatment options available, with reference to services in
the area.
- To identify when referrals for more
specialist advice are essential.
- To develop an appreciation of what is
valued by the user in the way in which services are
delivered.
- To identify risk factors in providing
personal care for the service user and the service provider.
- To be aware of our possible attitudes to
culture, ethnicity and gender preference in relation to
HIV/AIDS.
- To use case studies and small group
exercises including participants’ own experiences in order
to provide strategies for best practice.
- To provide and develop practice guidance
during the day.
- To discuss the problems and issues
involved in everyday work in this area and to develop
strategies and personal action plans, including how and when
referring and liaise with local services.
