Synopsis:
The course will also include an overview of personality
disorders and current methods of intervention.
The course will also provide an opportunity for staff to
explore current issues using case studies and to identify
strategies for best practice.
Since the implementation of the Mental Health Act 1983 there
have been many changes and amendments to the Act. Other
legislation has meant additional responsibilities and duties to
those who care for people with personality disorders and to
ensure that the law is carefully followed. The ’83 Act is at
present under review and a new Act will be introduced shortly.
This will be discussed together with the Human Rights act the
implications for practice.
Course Content:
- An overview of eating disorders and current methods of
intervention.
- An opportunity for staff to explore current issues using

principles of the Mental Health Act 1983, the Code of Practice
(published March 1999), the Memorandum (published 1998) and
other recent statutory legislation in relation to people with
eating disorders

The importance of appropriate
care.

relative.

Consent to Treatment/Capacity
and consent.
The course will not offer legal opinions in any particular
case.
