Specialist Mental Health Programmes

 

Working with people with eating disorders

Duration:

  • Qualified Social Workers

Synopsis:

This course provides an opportunity for qualified social workers with experience of working with clients with eating disorders to identify and explore the issues in their professional practice they wish to address. Opportunities will be provided to share current practice and the implications of recently published research with participants. Using case studies, exercises, participants will be give the opportunity to develop their skills in assessment and intervention strategies with clients with eating disorders.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To identify the issues which exist for qualified professionals working with clients with eating disorders.
  • To update their knowledge and skills with presentations on current publication and research on practice in this area.
  • To be provided with an opportunity through group discussion and group exercises to extend and develop new skills for the assessment, management and intervention of case work with clients with eating disorders.

Course Content:

Presentation of up to date material on current practice and research on eating disorders. Small group exercises, discussions focused on case studies to highlight strategies and practice guidance for assessment and intervention in this work. The course aims at all times to address issues of anti-discrimination, anti-racism and civil liberties and the implication of the Human Rights Act for practice in this area.
