Aims and objectives:

  • To review the importance of support and supervision for staff in dealing with these situations

  • To review and clarify the role and responsibilities of managers in providing support and supervision in this situation

  • To review the legislation, agency policies and practice guidance in relation to this situation

  • To highlight the ways in which managers can help staff to understand their roles, responsibilities and boundaries in relation to these situations

  • To identify the ways in which they can support members of their team(s) to provide support to families

  • To clarify the roles and responsibilities of managers in supporting staff in public enquiries following a suicide or other situation involving serious self harm
