Programme Outline:
To establish the needs that we all have as human beings. An introduction to Maslow's hierarchy of needs. A review of the special needs of people with mental illness. A review of how need is currently assessed, including strategies for improving the quality of assessment as a basis for an holistic approach to people with mental health. How do we translate the information gained in assessing the needs of people with mental illness into effective care planning. A review of how clients and professionals expectations may differ.
To examine the role and responsibilities of staff or volunteers working with people with mental illness. Multi-agency approach to working with people with mental illness reviewed.
Aims and Objectives:
- To assist professionals working in the mental health field to better understand the needs of people with mental illness
- To better understand why clients and professionals expectations of services may differ.
- To review the skills that are required to help people with mental illness.
- To review the skills required to assess the needs of people with mental illness, including an understanding of their needs, examining ways of turning aims into goals and plans into action.
- To review ways in which assessments can be used as a basis for providing effective care planning for people with mental illness.
- To review the roles and responsibilities of people working in the mental health field, including volunteers.
- To provide a multi disciplinary approach to understanding the needs of people with mental illness
